In 2012 Icknield Community College’s catering contractor went into administration with no notice. This left the school faced with the possibility that there would be no catering service available to the students. We instantly offered our support and as the previous caterer left on the Friday, we were able to step in on the Monday and keep the service running. Despite the significantly short time frame the transition for the school, staff and students was smooth and we set to work instantly to offer an improved service for the students.
We have since revamped and fitted out the dining and service area, installing a cuban themed servery and implemented a live cooking station offering students a theatre style dining experience. We have dramatically improved the menu offering with a wider range of contemporary dishes that appeal to young adults, based on high street influences and innovative new recipes. Icknield was the first of our high schools to receive an outdoor vintage food truck, inspired by food festivals, creating a brand new al fresco dining area which has proved popular with the students.
Since implementing our innovative cashless cafeteria system with multiple touchscreen till points and an efficient authorisation process, we have dramatically reduced queuing times at Icknield whilst increasing productivity, with only one member of staff required to supervise the whole process.
Over the last 7 years we have worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to determine what changes would fit the ethos of the school to achieve the best possible uptake and continue to do so.
