Out of This World Creativity: Space Day Competition! πŸš€

Earlier this year, pupils across our partner schools joined us for an unforgettable Space Day themed lunch, celebrating all things cosmic with a menu packed full of galactic favourites. To make the occasion even more exciting, we invited pupils to take part in two creative competitions designed to inspire imagination, creativity and a love of all things space.

What followed exceeded all our expectations.

From colourful candy-covered planets to wonderfully weird alien lunch guests, we received an incredible collection of entries from talented young artists across the country. The creativity on display was truly remarkable, and our judging panel had the difficult task of selecting just one winner from each category.

In fact, the standard was so high that we simply couldn’t stop at two winners. After much deliberation, we decided to introduce a selection of runner-up awards to recognise some of the fantastic entries that narrowly missed out on the top spot.

πŸͺ KS1 Competition: Design a Dessert Planet

Our KS1 pupils were challenged to transform a planet into a delicious dessert world, and they certainly rose to the occasion.

We received entries bursting with colour, creativity and imagination. There were planets made from sweets, ice cream worlds, chocolate-covered moons and all manner of cosmic confectionery creations. The variety of ideas was incredible and made judging exceptionally difficult.

After much discussion, we were delighted to award our KS1 Winner prize, a Space-Themed Toy Hamper, to:

πŸ† Cole Thompson

Seaton Sluice First School

KS1 winner's entry in the Dolce Space Day contest

Cole’s vibrant and imaginative dessert planet immediately stood out to our judges. The colourful design, creative use of decoration and attention to detail made it a truly stellar entry and a worthy winner.

πŸ‘½ KS2 Competition: Design an Alien Dinner Guest

Meanwhile, our KS2 pupils were tasked with designing an alien they would invite to lunch, complete with a name, home planet and details of what their extra-terrestrial visitor would choose to eat.

The results were nothing short of amazing.

From friendly aliens and multi-eyed monsters to bizarre creatures from distant galaxies, pupils demonstrated impressive creativity and storytelling skills. We loved seeing not only their alien designs, but also the backstories and imaginative menu choices that accompanied them.

Our judges eventually selected the following entry as the overall winner of a brilliant Tabletop Telescope:

πŸ† Shiona

Elizabeth Woodville Primary School

This wonderfully inventive eyeball alien design captured our judges’ attention from the moment it arrived. The originality of the concept and the creative details throughout the entry made it a standout winner.

⭐ Celebrating Our Runners-Up

Choosing our winners was no easy task.

The quality of entries across both age groups was so impressive that we felt many more pupils deserved recognition. As a result, we awarded a number of runner-up prizes, with each runner-up receiving an alien-themed plush toy to celebrate their hard work and creativity.

The runners-up showcased exactly what our competitions are all about: imagination, enthusiasm and the confidence to think beyond the stars. Every shortlisted entry brought something unique to the competition, and we were genuinely impressed by the effort pupils invested in their work.

Thank You to Everyone Who Took Part

Competitions like these wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many people.

We would like to extend our thanks to:

  • The pupils who embraced the challenge and created such fantastic entries.
  • The teachers and school staff who helped organise activities and select finalists.
  • The kitchen teams who supported the promotion of Space Day in their schools.
  • The parents and guardians who encouraged pupils to get involved.

Your enthusiasm helped make our Space Day celebration one of our most successful themed events yet.

What’s Next? πŸŽ„

If your pupils enjoyed Space Day, there’s more creative fun on the horizon.

We’re delighted to announce that our annual Design a Christmas Card Competition will be returning very soon. Once again, we’ll be inviting talented young artists from our partner schools to showcase their creativity for a chance to win fantastic prizes and see their festive designs brought to life.

We can’t wait to see what they create next.

Until then, congratulations once again to all of our winners, runners-up and participants. Your creativity was truly out of this world. πŸš€βœ¨
