A huge thank you to all Dolce Schools Catering staff for helping to ensure zero surplus food went to landfill during lockdown 3.0

We want to pass on a huge thank you to all Dolce Schools Catering kitchen staff and staff across the business who worked tirelessly to ensure that all of our surplus food stock did not end up in landfill after the sudden lockdown 3.0 announcement.

After receiving the biggest food delivery of the year, we were faced with approximately 175,000 meals worth of surplus food.

In a race against time, staff pulled together to ensure the majority of food was utilised for future used (e.g. cooking sauces from the surplus tomatoes) and where it couldn’t be utilised, it was given to various charities, church groups, food banks to feed the vulnerable.

The work our staff have done has been noticed by many others in the industry who now want to follow Dolce’s example to avoid their own surplus food going to landfill. So much so, BBC and Sky Breakfast news have filmed this story.

We estimate that 11,000 meals went the vulnerable, which is a staggering number.

Thank you everyone!!
