Allergen Awareness: Dolce supports Natasha’s Day

Natasha Allergy Research Foundation 14 for 14 challenge

This October marks an important milestone for food allergy awareness in the UK. On 1 October, it’s the anniversary of Natasha’s Law – a landmark piece of legislation that has transformed food safety for millions of people living with food allergies.

The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation – the UK’s food allergy charity – was founded in 2019 by Tanya and Nadim Ednan-Laperouse after their daughter Natasha died aged 15 from a severe allergic reaction to sesame. It’s a charity that we’ve partnered with, helping to support the organisation’s goal to #MakeAllergyHistory.

The week that Natasha’s Day falls in – 29 September – 5 October – will see a campaign celebrating the positive impact of Natasha’s Law, highlighting the importance of transparency for those affected by allergies, and raising vital funds to continue life-saving work.

Central to Natasha’s Day is the 14 for 14 Challenge – inviting people across the UK to take part in activities themed around the number 14. From 14,000 steps a day, to 14 colleagues working together, to even 14 dog walks. It’s a chance to get creative, build team spirit, and support the Foundation’s mission.

Here at Dolce, we’re proud to play our part:
  • Our Food Services team will be delivering new allergen safety workshops in the coming
weeks, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to safeguarding pupils with allergies.
  • At our Lowton office, colleagues are planning a ‘bake-off’ fundraiser to help raise awareness and donations.
  • We’ve set up a JustGiving page to encourage contributions. We’re encouraging all kitchen teams to get involved in their own way.
  • We’re also inviting our partner schools to join in. On 2 October, during our next primary school theme day, schools will be encouraged to hold a non-uniform day in aid of Natasha’s Foundation – with all proceeds going to the charity.

Supporting Natasha’s Day is about more than fundraising. It’s about celebrating Natasha’s legacy and recognising how far food safety has come and reminding ourselves of the responsibility we all share in protecting young people with allergies.

At Dolce, we now cater for 1 in 20 schools across England and we’re committed to ensuring every child can enjoy school meals safely. We’re proud to stand alongside Natasha’s Foundation in championing this cause.
